GSARU: The Gay-Straight Alliance at Radford University - "The club's purpose is to promote the education and awareness of GLBT issues on the RU campus and in the New River Valley and to provide a safe, comfortable environment for students, faculty, staff and community members to work together in achieving this goal."

 

OUTLoud at Hollins University (Roanoke) - "OUTLoud is Hollins' Gay-Straight Alliance. It strives to provide a safe environment for LGBT students as well as promoting the idea of equality for all and awareness with our allies. Meetings are fairly informal as members planning events for the Hollins community, take an active stance on political issues, and have informal discussions of various issues that affect the LGBT community."

Multicultural Programming at Roanoke College

 

The LGBTQ Center at UVA - "Located in the center of Grounds, in the Lower Level of Newcomb Hall, the LGBTQ Center is both a physical space and a programming center for the university. Whether you’re questioning, coming out, queer, or an ally, the LGBTQ Center has something for you."

 

Queer Action at VCU - "Queer Action is Virginia Commonwealth University's longest running LGBTQ* & ally group on campus. It is a student-run organization that partakes in both activist and social events. Our goal is to promote equality and spread awareness and resources to the Queer community of and around VCU."

Roanoke Pride: Home of Roanoke PFLAG - "Roanoke Pride, located in the heart of Roanoke, Va, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting acceptance, visibility, and a sense of community in the Southwestern Virginia LGBT community. We have a vision of working toward world where diversity is embraced and all people are granted equal rights and opportunities regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity."

 

The Roanoke Diversity Center - "To support, educate, empower, and advocate for LGBT individuals and groups in the Roanoke region, and to encourage collaborative efforts with the greater community to improve the quality of life for all."

 

Floyd, VA PFLAG - "As a small, rural chapter of PFLAG, we in the Floyd community welcome your participation in whatever positive ways you are able to involve yourself.

 

We are actively working to increase our online presence so as to make it easier for those who cannot make it to meetings to take part in our work and community regardless of where they live."

National Organizations

ReachOut USA - "ReachOut USA focuses on the intersection between disability and LGBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) concerns. ReachOut USA seeks to influence the disability community to be more responsive to LGBT individuals, and at the same time it seeks to influence LGBT individuals and organizations to be more accountable to people who have disabilities. ReachOut USA pursues these goals through advocacy, training, technical assistance, referrals, and the negotiation of partnerships."

 

The Trevor Project - "Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24."

 

SERVICES & ADVOCACY FOR GLBT ELDERS (SAGE) is the country's largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults. Our mission is to lead in addressing issues related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) aging.

 

The HRC - "The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all."

 

The GLBT National Help Center - We offer several different programs including two national hotlines that help members of our community talk about the important issues that they are facing in their lives. We help end the isolation that many people feel, by providing a safe environment on the phone or via the internet to discuss issues that people can’t talk about anywhere else. The GLBT National Help Center also helps other organizations build the infrastructure they need to provide strong support to our community at the local level.
